The Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption (Convention) is an international treaty created to ensure that intercountry adoptions are in the best interests of children and to prevent abduction, exploitation, sale, or trafficking of children.
The Hague provides standardized regulations for every country that ratifies it and allows for greater transparency in adoptions. This helps to protect adoptive parents, children and biological parents involved in the adoption process.
