Beautiful, healthy babies in the United States are available for adoption. Couples or singles living in Nebraska or Western Iowa that have the desire to parent a child of color are encouraged to inquire about this program. The babies are fabulous and families are often holding their child within their first week of life.

Who Can Adopt?*
Couples and singles living in Nebraska or Western Iowa are eligible for this program. Couples must be married for at least one year. Families with children already in the home are welcome in this program. In most cases, birth parents are selecting the adoptive parents for their child, which makes it difficult to gauge how long a family may wait in this program. Parents must be open to African American and gender and will typically wait 2 12 months for placement. Recently, single-parent families waited 4-8 months longer than married couples.

Who Are the Children?
Across the U.S., birth parents are in search of adoptive parents for their unborn child. The majority of the children are African American. Most are healthy newborns and some have health issues, which are discussed prior to placement.

How Long Is the Process? Adoptive parents receive a child referral, usually of a newborn, or are matched with a birth parent(s) approximately 1 to 12 months following the completion of the adoption Home Study and submission of the adoptive family profile to the various agencies ALW works with. Post Placement Supervision is required after the child comes home. Get more information on these services.

What Is the Process & Fee Structure?
Families are matched with a birth mother during her pregnancy or following the birth of the child. Official “Child Acceptance” occurs following the birth of the child, after the available medical information has been reviewed and the birth parents' legal-parental rights have been relinquished. Most placements are considered Legal Risk for a variety of reasons. You should talk to our staff about these situations. Families travel immediately to receive their child. Adoptive parent(s) and birth parent(s) may meet during this visit. Families will need to remain in the state the child was born for 7 to 14 days until all the necessary paperwork has been completed and approved. This process is called ICPC.
