| Forming a healthy attachment from the very beginning is critical to the success of your adoption. For some this comes quickly, for many it takes months of re-teaching your child about how the world works. But every family faces adjustments. Some expected and some unexpected, but that's where we come in.
Following the placement of a child in your home, we will begin the required post placement supervision. This is a special time in which our trained staff will support you through the adjustment period. Adoptive parenting, while similar in many ways to birth parenting, has it's own unique issues of entitlement, attachment and adjustment. We are committed to working to support you through this important time in your life.
The Post Placement Supervision fee is $250 per visit. ALW requires two face-to-face visits within six months of placement and at least one must occur in your home. For families adopting a child over age three or siblings, three post placement visits are required in the first 6 months. Additional visits required by the placing agency/country can be contracted for $250 per visit. Mileage and drive time fees may apply. Families adopting more than 1 child will be charged one-half of the post placement fee for each additional child. For example, families adopting 2 siblings would pay $375 per visit.
Following completion of your six months of post placement supervision, ALW will prepare your Adoption Finalization Packet and forward it to your attorney. (Foster Child Adoption post placement is slightly different. Please contact us for more information.) This step completes your adoption.
