Decision-Making
Meet with a professional adoption worker to explore options and secure referrals for medical care, insurance, housing or other resources.
Select an adoptive family from ALW’s waiting families’ profiles.
Birthparents meet the adoptive parents, if you wish.
Develop an adoption plan for the birth of the child, hospital stay, naming the baby, and open adoption arrangement.
Continue to meet with ALW adoption worker and have contact with the adoptive parents if you wish.
3. Birth of Child
Call your ALW adoption worker when labor begins.
Review feelings about proceeding with the adoption plan again after the baby is born.
4. Legal Paperwork
Birthparents may sign relinquishments anytime after 48 hours following the birth of their child.
5. Post-Adoption
Birth parents may choose to continue their relationship with child and adoptive parents.
Stay in touch with ALW and continue meeting with adoption worker as needed.
